Identify the existing colors in your room – and the color of any metal accents. This will typically be your palette. Try to stick to 3 main colors at most. Occasionally, if you have a monochromatic color scheme (1 basic color), you might use a floor lamp to introduce another color. Choosing a metal such as silver, brass, gold, bronze is also a good option. If your walls are white – you may want to consider using a lampshade that is a little darker so that there is some contrast to the wall.
But this post isn’t about that, I’m going to spend some time here talking about making sure you incorporate the right type of lighting and I’ve rounded up a few of my favorites. I’ll show you some of the really cool floor lamps you may be seeing everywhere and why they may NOT work in your space.
