Awesome Land: WOMEN of DIRT

Mountain biking has long been a male dominated sport and until recently all forms of media covering this sport have focused on the men with an occasional mention to women. There has been a large influx of women participating in mountain biking and the level of talent has been exponentially increasing. Awesome Land: Women of Dirt is a groundbreaking film by the filmmakers at Bones Over Metal that spotlights some of the most talented women on two wheels and the lifestyles they lead to allow them to ride. Awesome Land: Women Of Dirt celebrates the mountain bike while celebrating the women who love them.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Filmed by Bike is a festival of bike-themed independent short movies from around the world. Submissions are limited to eight minutes and must revolve around the central theme of cycling.

Hundreds of international entries are submitted but only an average of 30 make the final cut. Our jury of esteemed judges makes that tough decision.

The festival is held every April in Portland, Oregon at the Clinton Street Theater.  For more information on this year’s festival, see the Program Page.

Every year the festival features a fresh selection of exciting, creative films that are eight minutes or under. Sure, we like those movies of messengers riding like daredevils in-and-out of NYC traffic, smacking taxi butts and skidding in style, but Filmed by Bike is about so much more than that.

An advanced and mature society is one that recognizes, nurtures, revels in and celebrates it’s creative class, it’s art and culture.  Here in Portland, our bike culture is beyond the basics and we are wholely embracing our place in society as more than just bikers.  We revel in bringing together movies from around the world for festival that celebrates bike culture.

Entries are evaluated by an esteemed jury of bicycle and film enthusiasts from the Portland-Seattle area.  Our jury page details this year’s roster.

“Our 4th year of the FHR is on us soon. February 22nd (Sunday) meet up at 8:30 am under the viaduct at the usual place of Washington and Alaskan. We have a half hour for sign ups and yelling at each other in the street, then we catch the 9:35 ferry to Bainbridge. This is a GREAT day event. 33 miles of hills and cold. Bainbridge is beautiful, and it’s a great challenging ride. Plus, every year so far EVERYONE attending has gotten prizes, regardless of finishing placement.”

Filmed by Bike is the West Coast’s premier bike-themed film festival.  The festival embraces the
art and innovation of bikes through the eyes of imaginative storytellers who use moving images
to celebrate the world’s most efficient and creative form of transportation.   Since 2003, Filmed by
Bike has showcased a love of two wheels in eight minutes or less.   This festival-plus-party
happens once a year in Bike City, USA: Portland Oregon. The event grabs hold of an entire

Announcing our Cape Verde Bicycle Organization Project!
“Our new Cape Verde Bicycle Organization (CVBO) project allows us to support cycling accross
the world! The goal of our company is to help spread a positive and active lifestyle. We give back to
our community by donating a portions of all our sales to the American Cancer Society, and the
National Forest Foundation. Apart from these donations we have taken steps to support the growth
and awareness of cycling in Cape Verde, the island Republic located off the west coast of Africa.
